There are statements that we love to use; ‘I trust God’, ‘I believe in Him’, ‘He’s promised to deliver’. Big statements that show a belief in the supernatural, a supreme being we call the Almighty. Statements that show faith, that though the norm says A cannot happen before B, we believe it can.

But the question that lingers is, if God was to pull an Abraham on you, would you do it? Would you wait for years to get that child He promised? Or leave that well-paying job so as to pursue a purpose or passion you have no idea will meet your basic needs?

Would you, in your late 30s, still believe God will bless you with a husband, even when it looks bleak, with your youth waning and your peers having long had families of their own? Would you still soldier on with God’s purpose even when others lack belief in your conviction, their doubts draining the strength in your body?

There are some situations in life that are not easy. Those that reduce you to ground zero, those that bring the fear of not knowing where the equator divides trust and blind faith, those that make us experience catch 22 situations, not knowing God’s will at that particular moment.

Even though we quote the Bible and blast the devil, praying against the pillars of doubt he might bring, deep down, sometimes unconsciously, these words of faith mask the doubt in our lives, however silent. And therein, when alone and confused, battered and weary, we realize just how hard it is, humanly speaking, to trust God.

When we are walking down that lone dark road, we have a difficulty believing in God’s timing. Society has piled pressure on us to the point we find ourselves helping God. To man, time once lost, is hard to recover. We desire to go with the world’s pace, rightfully so.

It bothers us, down to the bone marrow, seeing our peers doing well in life. It pains us to see them making loads of money, buying property, making investments, amassing doctorates and postgraduate degrees while we still wait for God to work His promises in our lives.

We wonder where God is, where our faith in Him has taken us. We are human beings, after all.

So if having total faith in God is an issue, few people will be willing to take a step of faith, a journey to the unknown. How many of us can do that? We lack faith to leave that job that is taking our minds straight to hell, and fully trust God to deliver another.

We have a valid reason for not doing so. We got bills and expenses to cater for, and we are not about to appear vulnerable to our families, friends or outsiders. But that shows we really don’t trust God. He is God. He made these things. There’s nothing that was made that was not made by God. He gives you these bills and can take them away too.

It’s not easy believing in God. Yet, we limit Him to our expectations. Our lack of faith limits His work in our lives. We want to be sure of the direction we are taking. We want to think it through and come to a logical conclusion, arming ourselves with answers for our doubters.

But faith goes beyond logic, beyond human comprehension. It is the evidence of things hoped for, of things not seen. Without this faith, it’s hard to please God. The God that is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we could ever ask or imagine. The God who calls things which are not as though they were. That which no eye has seen or ear has heard what He has in store for us.

Trust has been defined as having confidence in, to depend on, to have faith in, or to believe in someone or something. Whenever someone says they trust you, it is a very strong statement that means they have full confidence in you.

It is a key element in life. Trust makes you sleep well next to your spouse, in the full confidence that that person will not harm you when you are so lost in sleep at night. Trust makes companies have confidence in their products even in the face of competitors.

God wants you to have full confidence in Him. He wants you to know that no matter how long it takes, you will get that job. That no matter the prayer requests you’ve made, a baby will be born from your womb, all according to His will. You need to trust His good and perfect will.

He is the author and finisher of everything and what He has said will never amount to nothing. Whether you have a small request or one which does not make sense at all, remember, He is God. He is able to do what He has promised to do.
